Unsafe sidewalk
Dear Editor:
First let me say, your town is beautiful and my family's first two days in your community were wonderful.
But, on Sunday night, October 13, my sister took a terrible fall that could have been easily prevented. We were staying at the Boothbay Harbor Inn and decided to go down the street to the Lobster Dock. We crossed the street because the only sidewalk is on the other side of the street from the Inn. We saw the Lobster Dock and tried to cross the street - the location being 49 Atlantic Ave.
As my sister stepped off the curb she fell 27 inches (over two feet) to the street. She hit her head, broke two ribs (confirmed in the emergency room in the hospital) and was in great pain. The ambulance and police office ended up coming to the inn to take my sister to the hospital.
To our surprise the doctor told us he had treated other people that had fallen from that same location: 49 Atlantic Avenue. The next day one of the partners from Lobster Dock told us a man had fallen two weeks ago and had broken both of his wrists and one knee cap.
Now, before Boothbay Harbor gets a lawsuit placed again, citizens of your great town should talk to your selectmen, town road manager, anyone that can get something done now. No one should have to go though the pain and suffering my sister did the last three days of her vacation from Minnesota. It will take her three weeks to recover. Please do something for the safety for your town.
