Try the water
It has been a hot summer so far. Great for swimming and boating activities or just sitting and reading which many of us come just to do. Estelle Greenberg planned a great get together luncheon at Oliver’s on Cozy Harbor Road in Southport on July 16.
It was hot but the 16 of us enjoyed the delicious food. The next luncheon for anyone in Sprucewold who is interested will be on the third Tuesday in August at Cape Newagen. She will send out a notice via email to all who are interested a couple of days before, because she likes to give the restaurant a “heads up” on number of attendees.
Estelle has been doing this all year long for a couple of years and this was the first time that I was able to attend (I guess we have too many guests). Thanks, Estelle. It’s nice to have you do this for us.
The swimming has been terrific with water temperatures in the 70s. For all of you who are fearful of the cold Maine waters. Try it! It is not cold! At age 87, I dive in without feeling it first. If you were not here for our opening reception, please note that the “Halibut Fish Farm” that was proposed for the area between Cabbage and Negro Islands has been abandoned. However the four yellow markers indicating the region have not been removed. Actually, one of the yellow markers is on its side indicating a navigational hazard to boaters.
If you read this before 10 a.m. on Thursday, meet Sheila, Larry Jaeger and others at Barrett's Park for a walk (mostly by trail) to East Boothbay at 10:30 a.m. Perhaps those who walk will be met in East Boothbay for lunch and a ride home; others may try to find their way back by trail. Since I will have my dog, I will probably be able to lead the returnees.
In our cabin, we started out the summer with 11 occupants and 3 dogs. We now are down to 3 people and 2 dogs but we will be increasing again and will return to double digits by this weekend. It’s lucky that my son is, hopefully, buying a 39-foot C and C which will sleep seven if they don’t snore.
Remember to check the signs for activities posted around Sprucewold. For those who don’t wander but use their computers, read the Sprucewold blog.
