Boothbay-Boothbay Harbor CSD Board of Trustees on July 11 discussed the Honeywell findings for Boothbay Region Elementary and High schools' maintenance and repairs. The report showed needs throughout the two buildings including upgrades for lighting, emissions, HVAC (heating, ventilation and air conditioning) and power.

Honeywell suggests a $4,991,312 option or a $3,424,793 one that excludes carbon dioxide controls to one of the heating and ventilation systems and replacement of several HV units in BRES.

The options address heating, ventilation and everything "Honeywell," said Trustee Steve Lorrain. “Some of it has to be done, no question.”

Vice chair Kevin Anthony said he asked Honeywell to break the totals down to each individual number so the board can understand where some of the costs would come from.

"It looks to me like this is a hell of a number, so maybe there are some of these things we don't do. I think we've got to weight the cost benefits," said Anthony.

Alternative Organizational Structure (AOS) 98 Superintendent Keith Laser said the trustees will be connecting with the CSD School Committee next month. Then trustees will present the information to Boothbay and Boothbay Harbor selectmen for municipal and public input.

In other discussion, Facilities and Transportation Director Dave Benner announced security officer Kyle Canada will be starting this month.

“This summer, he's going to be helping Mike Gudroe do the cameras. He's going to be pulling all the wires and hooking up all the cameras. That will give him hands-on experience and that will come off the labor rates,” said Benner.

Benner said it will likely take two or three years for the job to mold itself, so starting out, the priority will be for Canada to get a feel for buildings and grounds.

“Potentially, if it works out, when I get done he might be a good guy to look at,” said Benner.

“I don't know,” said Trustee Ashlee Lowery. “I think you're a lifer. I don't think you get to leave.”
