Trevett Column: Next potluck July 17

Mon, 07/08/2019 - 8:45am

Next up is the July potluck taking place on July 17 at the new time of 5:30 p.m. Anne is organizing the hosts for the evening. Please plan on bringing an appetizer, main or side dish or dessert to share along with your beverage of choice. As always, coffee and water are available. There will be a lobster talk by Brian and Bill after dinner.

About 50 folks attended the June potluck; they were so excited to get a preview of items that would be available at the yard sale. The raffle was quite successful with Bill having the winning ticket. Well done.

New trustee Suzanne was welcomed. She is a great addition to the board.

The weather cooperated and they were standing in line when the doors were opened for the yard sale. Things flew out the door and it was a must successful sale judging by the little leftover that went to Rotary. Many thanks to the folks that donated, the crew that showed up every day to sort, clean, price and arrange items, to those folks who helped on the day of the sale and to those that bought. It would not have happened without Joan, Dorinda, Robin, Judy, Paul, Tom, Nancy, Robert and Bill.

The Barters Island community never sleeps as it was back to hall a few days after the yard sale to host our bus friends from New Jersey. And another great community effort — thanks go out to those that set up, a really big thank you to those that cooked, more thanks to those that served and finally many thanks to those that cleaned up.

BICA will be hosting a Welcome Celebration Cookout on Saturday, Aug. 24 at the hall at 24 West Side Road. This is an opportunity to find out what the Barters Island Community Association is all about. All ages are welcome and free food will be provided (bring your own drinks) so mark your calendar now and plan on attending.
