Time to clean house in Washington
Dear Editor:
Failing to prevent President Barack Obama’s reelection, obstructionists in Congress have striven to make his second term as unproductive as possible in spite of the fact that they do not always disagree with him.
I believe there is a reason for this.
Many of the opposition hope to return to power, pass needed reforms and improvements, and claim credit for doing so, while denying credit to Obama. Remember how the Clinton administration failed to pass healthcare reform? As soon as Bush became president, Part D Medicare was pushed through. Although beneficial to many, it was never listed on budget and served to increase the deficit, along with two wars, leaving Obama’s administration (which did list it) with the blame.
Now we see the same game being played with other important issues: immigration reform, the minimum wage, unemployment compensation and, worst, infrastructure improvement. This would provide jobs for many and is sorely needed. The debt limit, surprisingly, was raised without a hassle and it was hinted that this was the last “concession” the president would get.
Will we all have to wait another three years for Washington to accomplish anything? Will this foolishness continue if another Democrat is elected? Will some Democrats pull the same stunt if a Republican is elected?
It’s time to stop playing political games and think of the good of the country. It is time to clean house in Washington.
