Three boats, all filled with love

There was a lot of participation, a lot of giving and a lot of love at the 3rd Annual Suzie’s Fill the Boat With Love event Dec. 30.
The charity event, the brainchild of Boothbay Region Middle School student Suzie Edwards, had three boats: one for Boothbay Region Food Pantry - final total $1,415 in cash and a canoe of food!
Suzie’s dad, Steve Edwards said the Clothing Closet boat was the fullest of the three, and there was $270 in cash donations. In other cash totals: $635 for Coastal Humane Society (now representing Edgecomb and Brunswick locations).
There were lots of karaoke singers - and that kept deejay Darrell Gudroe busy! Suzie sang some tunes throughout the five-hour event held at Brady’s Restaurant on Union Street for the first time.
Said Suzie, “It was the best year ever! People in the community are so very generous, and it’s wonderful to help those in need. I’m looking forward to next year!”
One of the unique aspects about this fundraiser - in addition to the fact that Suzie is leading the charge - is this: Every person who donated to one or more of the charities received a handful of free raffle tickets for prizes from these generous businesses: Greenleaf Inn, Eventide, sweet bay, Boothbay Canine, Thistle Inn, Elliot & Elliot, Gimbel’s, A Silver Lining, Balmy Days Cruises, Robinson’s Wharf, the fishing vessels Knotty Girl, Anxiety, Evangeline, and Bottom Line; McSeagull’s, Pinkham’s, Boat House Bistro, Caper’s Deli, Gimbel’s Log Cabin, Grover’s Hardware, Hammond Lumber, Oak Street Cafe, Sea Glass Spa, Black River Gallery, House of Logan, Boothbay Harbor Boat Race Committee, Oasis Salon, Salty Dog Pet Outfitters, Carriage House, Tigger Leather, Boothbay Region Art Foundation, Coastal Maine Popcorn and Salt River Lobster.
Well done one and all ... and, in the words of Dickens’ Tiny Tim, “God bless us - every one!”
