They claim we have ‘no say’
Dear Editor:
We need to really push back hard on this MAV wind turbine “development” project, which is being funded by taxpayers with $10 million, and much more subsidy money to come, from the U.S. Department of Energy.
A 3 MW GE wind turbine has blades 45 meters long, which is half the length of a football field. These monstrosities have blighted the landscapes and seascapes of Spain, Denmark, Germany, Great Britain, the U.S. and elsewhere. If the MAV project is deemed a “success,” as every so-called “green energy” project always is, these floating turbines will multiply overnight, will raise taxes, the price of electricity will have a devastating effect on our coastal landscape and fisheries, and will cause an industrial-scale slaughter of birds and bats that could lead to another silent spring.
They claim that we have no say in the matter, that it is a “done-deal” between UMaine and what is left of Obama’s Department of Energy. Well, with the help of our U.S. Senators and Representatives, Maine’s Legislature, our coastal community selectmen, and the legions of fishermen, lobstermen, boaters, and coastal property owners who are guaranteed a say based on our Constitution, we can prove them wrong!
Do not allow this Pandora’s Box to be opened.
