Dear Editor:

We wish to express our sincerest thanks and gratitude to the Boothbay and Boothbay Harbor Fire Departments for extinguishing the chimney fire at our home in East Boothbay on May 15.

They responded quickly to our call and our anxiety lessened as we watched the competent and professional way all the firefighters handled the situation. It was evident that these caring and courageous people spend a tremendous amount of time training to develop specialized knowledge and skills.

We are grateful to Chiefs Dick Spofford and Nick Upham and to all the firefighters who dropped everything to respond. These crucial members of our community deserve much respect and support.
