Support Boothbay selectmen
Dear Editor:
I fully support the Boothbay Selectmen in their vote to come to an agreement with the CMBG. They cannot give their reasons for voting the way they did until the agreement is signed. I’m sure they considered two very important points as to why the town would not prevail in the lawsuit and at the same time saved the town our cost of litigation and if the town lost the cost of CMBG legal fees.
1. Due to a poorly written town ordinance that makes a difference between a museum and an education facility the appeals board narrowly voted against the CMBG building permit. Common sense will tell you the purpose of a museum is to educate people. A judge had already ruled that CMBG was an educational faculty last summer when the Water District tried to impose a stop work order.
2. The two board of appeals members who privately visited the site against the rules of procedures should have recluse themselves from voting and the building permit would have been upheld by a 2-1 vote.
I hope this agreement ends the town of Boothbay legal costs that I assume is approaching $15k at this time. If the Anthony family wants to continue their vendetta against the CMBG they can do it on their own dime.
Also I don’t know why Mary Lou Teel would embarrass herself by trying to blame the CMBG for her legal problems with the town and the DEP in her letter to this paper. She was the one that illegally cut the trees in the shoreland zone without a permit to do so.
