Dear Editor:

Thank you to all who shared the evening of Dec. 6 at the Southport United Methodist Church as we celebrated Advent with a Lessons and Carols service and a soup supper. Our choir, along with some guest singers each year, has enjoyed sharing this annual tradition with you. This year we were pleased to have some members of the First UMC Choir join us. And we give very special thanks to our talented and dedicated director, Mary Miller, who believes in us and challenges us to do more than we ever think possible.

This was truly a community effort with our readers coming from many different churches in the area. Thank you to all the wonderful cooks who contributed soups, breads and scrumptious desserts. And special thanks to Betty Goulette and Tina Giles for all your help in the kitchen.

We especially wish to thank each and every one who attended - your donations will be used to support our church outreach. How truly blessed we are to live in such a supportive and caring community. May you all enjoy this beautiful season of Advent as we await the arrival of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
