The annual Student Art Show at BRAF
The art of more than 400 students was on display the past two weeks at Boothbay Region Art Foundation here in Boothbay Harbor. And, if you missed it, you can catch a glimpse of the incredible work from the show.
The imaginative work of students Pre-K to grade 12 from Boothbay Region High and Elementary schools, the Center For Teaching and Learning, Southport Central School and Edgecomb Eddy School filled the gallery like light through a prism!
Abstract expressionism, clay coiled pots (one with a fairy sitting on the edge of a flower), painted leaves (based on the Aboriginal artists of Australia), mythical creatures (delightfully predominantly dragons!), self-portraits a la Frida Kahlo, surrealism studies, gesture drawing, carved soapstone animals; wire, copper and brass jewelry, mosaics, windchimes, spirit sticks of driftwood, Japanese fans, and pocket shrines.
All inspiring, creative lessons were conceived of and shared with amazing art teachers: Southport: Jennifer McIvor; Boothbay Region Elementary School, Jessica Nadeau; Boothbay Region High School, Manon Lewis; Center For Teaching and Learning, Angela Lathem-Ballard; and Heather Chouinard at Edgecomb Eddy School.
“Every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist once he grows up.” — Pablo Picasso
