Spruce Mountain handles Boothbay, 52-12, on Homecoming
The Boothbay Seahawks cling to the final 8-man Small Conference football playoff spot with one week remaining. On Oct. 18, the Seahawks had an opportunity to clinch the final playoff spot, but lost to No. 2 Spruce Mountain, 52-12 at Sherman Field.
Boothbay is battling Traip for the final playoff berth. The Seahawks beat Traip on Oct. 11 for one of their three games. Traip has two wins and need to defeat undefeated Old Orchard Beach Oct. 25 to surpass Boothbay.
Neither team secured victory last week resulting in an interesting playoff scenario in the season's final regular season game.
The Seahawks are 3-4. following their 52-12 loss to Spruce Mountain at Sherman Field. The Seahawks had won three consecutive games.
The Seahawks managed two touchdowns against the fast and strong Spruce defense. Boothbay's first score came on a 35-yard pass play from quarter back Maddox Cusumano to receiver Spencer Wenners. Cusumano later ran in a score.
The Seahawks finish their regular season with a road contest in East Machias versus Washington Academy (1-4) at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 26.
