Southport Yacht Club
As I look at the calendar I am always in awe of the events held during the summer which are dependent on the willingness to volunteer to make things go smoothly. Even house guests step up to the plate and enjoy contributing. A well deserved thank you to all who helped out with the lobster bake .
I understand that the first kickball last Wednesday and Bingo on Thursday were well attended by children of all ages. Our next Thursday event will be the ever popular Ice Cream Social. So plan to skip dessert and come and enjoy your favorite sundae.
This Saturday at 5 p.m., the club will host a wine tasting with the advice and critique of one of our members who knows a lot about wine.
If you have not already picked up your roster and calendar please do so as there is a lot of important information about the goings on at the club.
Last Saturday the race committee over saw the first open race. First place went to Rob Hawley in Rainier; second, Charlie Phippen in Rocky Rhodes; third Bryce Jacobs in Rhodes Scholar and fourth Keith Turley in Wingnut. They were limited to one race due to threatening skies, lightening and a brief squall.
The next event will be the Norma Smith Race in Turnabouts at 1 p.m. For those of you who are new to the club, Norma Smith was the director of the sailing program for many years and her legacy continues with second and third generations of very good sailors.
The Arts and Crafts show is coming up soon and we would like to have many artisans whose efforts are always appreciated.
