The Metrologic summer has finally arrived with warm weather, warmer waters and plenty of waterfront activities. Our sailing program is in full swing with enthusiastic newcomers , eager returnees and the top sailors looking forward to racing in the Junior Olympics in Camden. We have a new program called "Munchkin Mariners" which is held Thursday mornings at 10 a.m. The purpose of this is to introduce the under 8 set to the pleasures of the youth activities at the club so they will be well prepared to enter the sailing program. The Junior Yacht club had its own event last Thursday with a crowded building of hopeful Bingo players. this evening everyone will be attending the first of the Ice Cream Socials at 7. Bring your bug spray and come and enjoy your dessert. The Senior Club had its always successful Wine Tasting last Saturday evening led by able wine connoisseur Jack Bauman.

The wind, either too much or too little, has put a damper on the weekend races but two hearty souls, Keith Turley and Mike Gaffney participated. Hope to see more of the usual boats on the line in the future.

Southport Yacht Club will be hosting the Seguin Island Trophy Race this year on Saturday, July 25. This will be a busy day of racing and will be followed by the annual SITR party at SYC! Please check your e-blast or the website for the links to sign up and race. We would like to see every member of the club involved in the event in some way. Sail: Sign up to sail! This year's regatta is a one-day race and will have an expanded cruising class! We hope to see every SYC boat on the starting line. Please register to race on the SYC website. Registration fee is $20. Party: Saturday, July 25, SYC will host the SITR party. This event will be held at the club and will feature beer, wine and food from Wicked Good Street Kitchen, a food truck from Portland. The folks at Wicked Good Street Kitchen will be offering: Fried Brussel sprouts with pulled pork, Steak and Cheese sandwiches, Pad Thai, fish tacos, chicken & waffles and more! You can either purchase a food only ticker for $15 or a food and beverage ticket for $25. The food and beverage tickets will include beer from the Boothbay Harbor Brewery and wine. We are three weeks away from the annual Arts and Crafts Show. I will be needing volunteers to help with the show. There is a sign up sheet in the club where you can pick a time which best works for you. I only ask for two hours during the show and one hour for set up and breakdown.
