The town of Southport’s Climate Action Team and Sunrise Ecologic are co-sponsoring an open house on Aug. 17 at the Southport Town Office from 6 to 8 p.m. This free event is open to the public to meet members of the Climate Action Team (CAT), learn about what we are doing and for Southport residents to share your thoughts about what is important to you! There may be snacks.

Smith Climo, Claire Tomlin and Nick Ullo are the three CAT members, and Shri Verrill of Sunrise Ecologic is the service provider working with the CAT, and assisting the town enroll in the Community Resilience Partnership (CRP). The CRP is a program administered by the Governor’s Office of Policy, Innovation, and the Future (GOPIF) to help implement Maine’s Climate Action Plan, “Maine Won’t Wait!”, which was developed by the Maine Climate Council.

Southport has already taken steps to modernize town buildings, reduce emissions through clean energy innovation, invest in climate-ready infrastructure, and to protect the environment and promote natural climate solutions. Each of these are strategic working areas in the Community Action List (CAL), which is comprised of 72 pre-approved project areas that will help meet Maine’s Climate goals and are eligible for funding through the Community Action Grant, once enrolled.

The CAL may be found at the GOPIF website here: https://www.maine.gov/future/climate/community-resilience-partnership/support

Residents of Southport are encouraged to review the list and identify which of the project areas are priorities and to share what is important to you!
