Various talents were on display – including a couple of memorable skits – at Southport Central School’s annual talent show at the Southport Town Office on Wednesday evening, April 26.

The kindergarten through grade 6 students, their teachers and staff entertained the audience of parents, grandparents and community members for an hour with singing, dancing, piano pieces, basketball dribbling, jokes and more.

The skits included “Photosynthesis,” a curriculum-based science act that included the sun, an apple tree, various animals, weather and more throughout the year. The skit was written by grade 5 teacher Julie Browne and her students. The second skit, “Snow White,” was written by Lisa Clarke, school principal and grade 3 teacher. The hilarious act included only four of the usual Seven Dwarfs, with the younger students sporting pillowcases adorned with fine artwork by Eileen Higgins, administrative assistant/tech coordinator.

The show, titled “Under the Sea,” was directed by Meredith Fowlie, guidance and cultural studies teacher. The all-school singing of the Disney song of the same name was sung in French by the students.

To open the evening, Clarke thanked her staff and students for the work they put in to get the show ready. She also reminded the audience about a bake sale to benefit the sixth graders’ (Haiden Blackman and Carter Townsend) trip to Boston later this spring. Later in the show, Clarke also reminded the audience the students will be participating in the “Screen Free Week,” with the school no screens May 1-4, with a community potluck supper, with games and more, on May 2 from 5 to 6:30.

Special thanks were given to Garry Blackman Sr. for lending the school his sound equipment for the show.
