Soda in the water fountains
Dear Editor:
A leopard can't change its spots.
The idiom "a leopard can't change its spots" means that someone's character, especially if it's bad, won't change, even if they try.
Some other idiom's are:
A tiger can't change its stripes.
A fox may grow grey but never good.
The wolf may lose his teeth but never his nature.
A person's character does not change.
Which brings me to a time in my childhood (sixth grade I believe). Some fellow students were running for class President. One boy got on stage to tell everyone why they should vote for him. He promised that he would put "soda in the water fountains.” I laughed; even at 11 years old I knew that could never happen, because the water in the water fountains came for the building's and the cities water supply. By the way, he won.
Which brings me to the current election.
Donald Trump says he will fix everything that's been wrong with this country the past four years, simply by doing what he did when he was president. In other words, he will do exactly what he did in the past (an alternate example of "a leopard can't change its spots").
Kamala Harris says she will fix everything by doing exactly the opposite of what she and the Biden administration did in the past. Can "a leopard change its spots?"
So whenever Kamala Harris says what she will do to fix all the problems she and the Biden administration caused, all I hear is: "soda in the water fountains."
