In Significant Thoughts on the Last Day of Vacation
Feast on pumpkin bread
found at the farmer’s market
along with finger eggplants
cypress green peppers
sun yellow squash.
It feels great to feel great
in these last few mellow hours
at home taking care
of neglected things:
vacuuming up dead insects,
scraping together two week’s worth
of dirty clothes, tell the black dog
“We WILL take a walk later.”
as she sinks back down to the floor
tell Fred Cat, “You are so very handsome
in your tuxedo but you are in my way.”
as he purrs his head up and down my leg
water, pluck brown leaves from neglected plants
ask the orchids, the glorious who, “How do you do
that! How do you know the when, where, how, why
and so what of blooming exotically”
Were you all artisans of words in another life time?
