Patrick Shorey, 26, of Waterville, was sentenced to 10 years in prison, all but three suspended, and four years’ probation, for a 2017 crash that claimed an elderly woman’s life.

The crash occurred in Dresden on June 2, 2017, near the Wiscasset line. According to Lincoln County Sheriff's reports, Carolyn Blouin, 75, of Rockville,  Connecticut, and her husband Charles Blouin, 81, were driving north on Route 27 when Shorey crossed the center line and hit their car head-on. Carolyn Blouin was killed instantly. Charles Blouin was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. Shorey was also hospitalized.  Weather was not a factor. Testing revealed Shorey was under the influence of multiple drugs at the time of the crash.  He was traveling almost 15 mph over the limit when he crashed into the Blouins’ vehicle, the reports stated.

He pleaded guilty in March to Manslaughter, Class A; Aggravated Criminal OUI,  Class B, owing to the death of the victim; a second charge of Aggravated Criminal OUI,  Class C, owing to the serious injury of the woman’s husband; Driving to Endanger, Class D; Unlawful Possession of Scheduled Drugs, Class D;  and Operating without a License, Class E.

According to court records, Shorey will serve the sentences for all the lesser charges concurrently with the sentence for the manslaughter charge. He was sentenced Tuesday at a hearing at the Lincoln County Courthouse.

In addition, Shorey was ordered to pay $2,100 in  fines, and lost his license for at least 10  years. His probation conditions include a prohibition from driving a vehicle, possession or use of alcohol or illegal  drugs, being subject to random searches and tests, and undergoing treatment for substance abuse, the court records state. He is forbidden from contacting the victim’s family.
