A Service of Evensong at All Saints by-the-Sea Aug. 25

Fri, 08/16/2019 - 7:30am

Amid our busy schedules of day to day life or even the busyness of vacations, have you ever longed for a space where you could just be? The service of Evensong  provides that opportunity to engage with Creation, the God of Creation and other beings of Creation in fellowship, prayer and music. A treasure of the Anglican tradition, this service dates back to the 1549 Book of Common Prayer. At its heart, Evensong is a simple service consisting of Bible readings and prayers along with a rich musical tradition of hymns to close the day. This hour of commitment to quiet contemplation or just being present offers a space to bring us into a deeper understanding of the mysteries of our faith.

The setting of All Saints by-the-Sea, on the edge of the vastness of the sea, is the perfect spot for this special service on Sunday, Aug. 25 at 4 p.m. The Reverend Maria Hoecker, rector of St. Columba’s in Boothbay Harbor, will be officiating with Timothy Harrell, choirmaster and organist at Trinity church in Solebury, Pennsylania at the organ.

All Saints by-the-Sea may be reached by heading south on Route 238 on Southport Island about two miles. An Episcopal Church sign is visible on the side of Route 238. Parking is available along Route 238 with a limited number of handicapped spaces provided off All Saints Road. A golf cart is available to transport people from the handicapped lot to the church steps. The chapel is also accessible by boat via the church dock.
