Boothbay Region High School (BRHS) Unified Basketball concluded its 2024 season play on Thursday, March 14 with a loss to the Gardiner Area High School Tigers, 54-43 at home with a packed gymnasium. The Seahawks’ final season record is 1-4-1, with a 31-42 loss earlier in the week to Morse High School.

Prior to tip off, coaches Dennis Dacus and Tanya Thibault honored senior players Matthias Fanslau, Ariel Alamo, Colby Allen, Kari Blake and Suzie Edwards with certificates of excellence. The game was held at 1 p.m. so the entire student body could attend and cheer on the Seahawks. Many students came with posters, wearing black as part of a “black-out” spirit campaign. Ella Watts suited up as the Seahawk mascot to engage and entertain the crowd.

Fanslau for the Seahawks and Cam Truman for the Tigers tipped off the game, to a Seahawks first basket by Fanslau for two. The Tigers outscored the Seahawks playing a traditional zone strategy with most of their points coming from layups. Seahawks invested heavily in a three-point game with roughly half their shots taken from outside the three-point line. Tigers were up 19-32 at the half.

Seahawk scoring was led by Fanslau with 20 points, 12 from 3-point plays. Brian Abbee scored eight, including a behind the back basket; Eddie Carpenter, seven; Chloe Joneth, four; and Anthony Angelico and Austin Orne, two each.

Team assistants included Alamo, Allen, Blake, Edwards and a cameo appearance by Harry Hinkley. The game was officiated by Clayton Pottle. Edwards sang the national anthem. The team celebrated with pizza following the game.
