CANDI JONETH/Boothbay RegisterThe Boothbay Region High School (BRHS) Seahawks lost to the Hall Dale Bulldogs in their final regular season game, Tuesday, Mar. 3, 75-69, in Unified play. The Seahawks honored four seniors: Anthony Angelico, Zander Blake, Caiden Farmer and Chloe Joneth.
Farmer delivered a powerhouse performance, tipping off the game for the Seahawks, putting up the first score of the game, scoring 30 points to break his own record high (24 points), and draining a buzzer-beating layup in the final seconds of play. He even won the halftime Seahawk toss. Farmer has perfected his bank shot from the low post, returning to his staple for consistent points off the glass, frequently with height advantage.
Blake scored an impressive 18 points, followed by Angelico for 10, Joneth for eight and Seigars for three. Bulldogs Justin Cole and Jorryn Ibenemen were unstoppable from the perimeter, racking up over 30% of the Bulldogs’ points off 3-pointers, which started late in the first half and dominated the second half of play. The Seahawks were down 42-36 at the half and were unable to close the gap in period two, despite their increased scoring efficiency. The Seahawks were more relaxed on rebounds in this game than in prior games, in part due to Makayla Fairservice and Matthew Jackson’s absences. Joneth, still injured, played in a limited capacity.
The 0-4 Seahawks played their lightest season since post-COVID-play. The season began with only six scheduled games, two of which were cancelled. Coaches continue efforts to reschedule missed games, including talk of a Seahawks v. faculty game, none of which are scheduled at the time of this article.
Partners Ronan Drage, Eleanor Marshall, Aryana Gray, Arabella Hodgdon, Sarah Harris, Moriah Smith, Zuriel Smith and Maddie Andreasen loaded the Seahawk bench and provided on-court assistance. Their contributions, along with those of Cole Hyson (absent), have made the season possible in countless ways. Unified basketball is a community-level extension of Special Olympics Maine Unified Championship Club, which promotes leadership, friendship and social inclusion for student-athletes with and without disabilities.
The game was officiated by Celia Philbrick. Sarah Harris performed the national anthem. Chris Ranslow coaches the Bulldogs. The Seahawks are coached by Dennis Dacus, Tanya Thibault and Tammy Blackman.
