Seahawks fall to Eagles in Unified play
Boothbay Region High School (BRHS) Seahawks lost to the Lincoln Academy (LA) Eagles, 89-82, in a close game on the road Monday, March 10. Seahawks have lost back-to-back matchups against LA, the first last Thursday. Seahawks will celebrate Eddie Carpenter on Senior Day, tomorrow, Tuesday, March 11, at home versus Hall-Dale at 3:30, their last official game of the season, before enjoying a Thursday, March 13 leisure matchup, against BRHS faculty and staff. Tipoff for this game is at 1:30.
Eagles honored four seniors; Mitchell Dusoe, Tally Bass, Alison Roberts and Sean Cushing prior to tipoff by Seahawk Eddie Carpenter and Eagle Emmett Anderson. Carpenter put the Seahawks on the board with a layup during first possession. Seahawks were still down Matthew Jackson, but coaches Dacus and Thibault were back at the helm.
Carpenter continued to dominate Seahawks scoring; 43 points in total for the game including an impressive 3-pointer from near mid-court, 36 points in the paint and a couple of floaters. Additionally, he had nine assists and countless rebounds. He is the heart and soul of the team this season and an excellent go-to player.
Brandon Seigars drained three 3-pointers and Anthony Angelico drove to the basket, scoring one fast break layup and six other baskets, for a total of 14 points. Chloe Joneth nailed eight baskets for 16 points, including a rebound from a missed Carpenter floater that she was able to convert to points. Team assistants Casey Phelps, Cole Hyson and Ronan Drage contributed to the action, providing sportsmanship, assistance and encouragement.
Eagles are coached by Morgan Brewer and Walter Gorneau officiated the game. LA cheerleaders and mascot were on hand to elevate pep and provide entertainment. Unified basketball is a community-level extension of Special Olympics Maine Unified Championship Club which promotes social inclusion, leadership, and friendship for both student athletes with and without disabilities.
