Resident interested in filling Southport Planning Board vacancy
A former Boothbay Planning Board member is interesting in filling a vacancy in Southport. April 16, Dimsie McBride told Southport selectmen she is interested. McBride moved to Southport in 2021. "I was reading the 'Morning Catch' about the vacancies and I'm interested. I started in Boothbay as an alternate and eventually ended up as the vice-chairman," she said. "I contacted Skip (Simonds, planning board chair) and he recommended I speak to you."
Gamage will contact Simonds about McBride's possible appointment and report back to the board.
In other action, Mari Tiwari inquired about renting one of the school buses this summer. She told selectmen her son is getting married in Waldoboro and wanted safe transportation for guests. "There is a dinner Friday night before the wedding on Saturday. So we were hoping to find some safe transportation," she said.
Selectmen were hesitant about a bus rental for an off-island event so they directed her to another option. Gamage told her Matt Thibault had recently purchased two used Community School District buses. "Check with Matt," he said. "I think he's in the business and that would be a better option."
Selectmen received notification about a potential new regional emergency management agency director. Gamage reported receiving a message from Boothbay Harbor Town Manager Julia Latter about John E. Oakes of Wiscasset. "I'm not sure if he was hired or if she wants to talk about it," Gamage said. He will check with Latter to clarify any misunderstandings about the communication.
Boothbay, Boothbay Harbor and Southport have been without a regional director since January.
Selectmen are also looking to another municipal vacancy. Last week, Jensen Baird notified them the Portland firm is no longer representing municipal clients. April 16, selectmen reviewed potential replacements supplied by Maine Municipal Association and their former attorney Ben McCall.
Spectrum Communications notified selectmen that as of April 1 Shop HQ is exiting Spectrum's programming lineup.
Selectmen meet next at 5 p.m. Wednesday, April 23 in the municipal building.
