Join us for the unveiling of a special display featuring photographs, history and memories of the East Boothbay School including a piece of the original slate blackboard saved from the school. Everyone is welcome to join us on Saturday, Sept. 5 at 10 a.m. at the East Boothbay Fire Station.

The ceremony will include speakers from the Boothbay Region Historical Society, the Boothbay Fire Department and the Boothbay Region Lions Club. Community members who attended the school are encouraged to come and share their memories.

Word has it there may be a story or two about teacher Hope Updegraff who first taught at the school in the 1920s. She then taught for an unbroken term from the 1930s to the 1970s. According to Barbara Rumsey in one of her “Out of Our Past” articles, Hope was known for her “instant, old-fashioned discipline, a speedy result of her all-seeing, all-hearing ability when it came to misbehavior.”

A complimentary black and white 8.5” by 11” photo of the school from the mid-1960s will be available for all in attendance. Donations for the photo will be appreciated and the money collected will be split between the Boothbay Region Historical Society, the Boothbay Fire Department and the Boothbay Region Lions Club.

We are pleased to say that delicious pies made by members of the East Boothbay Methodist Church will be available for purchase.
