Dear Editor:

Thank you to the individual who, before Easter Sunday, removed the picture of a military style rifle and various messages pointed toward the Boothbay Harbor Congregational Church and replaced them with a cross draped with a white shroud.

The cross, still a symbol of execution but in the Christian context a symbol of sacrifice motivated by love, and the shroud a symbol of death overcome, could be taken as symbols of the goals of the Parkland students rather than a challenge to their efforts. For that I am grateful and hope that the replacement is an “outward and visible sign of an inward and spiritual grace.”
