Re: Christmas Community Dinner

Dear Editor:

I’m sure glad we postponed!

At noon on Christmas day, the snow was falling and blowing so hard, I couldn’t see 100 yards in front of me, and I thought, “I’m so glad we postponed the annual Christmas Community Dinner!”

The change in date didn’t change the fact that many in our community are alone during this holiday season. This is one of the reasons we do what we do. And I’m thankful that so many of you see that truth as well. Some came because they would have been alone or couldn’t afford a good meal; some came because they wanted to interact with those who might need a friend or just someone to talk to, and some came just for a delicious meal that they didn’t have to cook! Whatever the reason, this community was ready to help and provide. Hannaford, Eventide, Shaw’s, the library, the churches, the Bistro, the Greenhouse, the American Legion, Newcastle Chrysler, and many individuals made something that was impossible to do alone - possible.

What a privilege to work with people like these. What a privilege to live in such a giving community!

Thank you.
