A call by a passer-by and quick response by Boothbay firefighter Tim Pinkham saved a house in East Boothbay from major fire damage Sunday, Feb. 20, according to Boothbay Fire Chief Dick Spofford.

The house at 225 Ocean Point Road, owned by Munro Dodge, was filled with smoke when the first firefighters arrived. The house was unoccupied at the time of the fire.

“We had plenty of people with SCBA (self-contained breath apparatus) equipment on scene,” said Spofford. “We had to knock a few holes in the wall near the hearth and there was water and smoke damage, but it could have been worse.” He said the mutual aid response from area departments was very good.

Spofford said the call on the fire was made by a passer-by around 5:30 p.m. The person saw smoke near the outside of the chimney at ground level.
