Questions Boothbay survey
Dear Editor:
The Boothbay Town Office says it will place a survey ... on its website? Which many don't even know exists yet ... and which most of those who do, found out by the news that the town manager had decided to censor and delete Facebook messages which did not agree with his version of the “town's voice.”
This is right up there with saying a new effort to get a positive vote will be accomplished by “dumbing things down” since the vote on the warrant was “so close.” The negative votes on Questions 2, 3 and 4 were, respectively 55 percent, 59 percent and 60 percent — which by the standard of most U.S. voting would be considered a wipe-out.
What needs to be “intelligenced up” are the selectmen who “didn't know the warrant would be controversial” and the town manager who, in his commentary in the Register before the election, said those opposing the warrant had “questionable motives” and “flawed facts.”
The survey, if it is to exist, needs to be mailed to all (and only) voting residents ... no matter how dumb, flawed and questionable anyone may be.
And maybe the survey could also request a vote on getting a capable spokesperson for the town management and officers.
