Quality of life while receiving care
Dear Editor:
The executive (St. Andrews board member Jeff Curtis) states his preference to be in a facility that can cover all contingencies.
In the mix needs to be the contingency of loved ones being unable to get to these distant beds. (Re: “Where are the beds?” in the October 3, 2013 edition.)
Often the statistics and tables seem to overlook this vital need to be with the ones we love at these critical times.
Doctors and nurses offer part of the answer, but they are not the only answer.
They may think that they are, but they will feel differently when it is them looking up from the hospital bed in Brunswick or beyond, wishing that someone in Southport or East Boothbay could have arranged transportation to be with them at the hospital.
