In praise of urgent care
Dear Editor:
My recent visit to the urgent care center at St. Andrew’s campus surely convinced me that this new service is a convenient asset for the community.
A freak accident in my home last Sunday sent me there, and my suspicions were confirmed when Dr. Janet Fowle, the M.D. on duty, assured me that I had indeed broken my toe.
While the injury was minor, I was treated with respect, kindness, caring and smiles all around from the doctor and her staff. One of the nurses even grew up in my neighborhood, and we exchanged memories of friends as she took my blood pressure!
Registration, examination, X-ray and bandaging took less than an hour, and I was on my way home to prepare for the onslaught of five grandchildren and their parents on Saturday.
If I had taken the time to go first to my doctor, and then to a hospital for X-rays, it probably would have taken several days!
I highly recommend using the urgent care center if you have an immediate medical problem that is not an emergency. I found it extremely easy and accommodating.
