A missing boat found floating in the Damariscotta River’s mouth last week was claimed by its owner, according to U.S. Coast Guard. A 16-foot wooden hull was found around 7:33 a.m. on May 29 just off King Phillip’s Trail. The Boothbay Fire Department assisted in recovering the boat which was found with the engine in an upright position and gear stored inside.
A search ensued for several hours for signs of an operator or passenger. The search concluded around 12:30 p.m. with no signs of anyone found. On June 3, Coast Guard officials reported the owner claimed the boat which was tied to an Ocean Island dock. Coast Guard didn’t keep a record of who claimed the boat.
