Ocean Point Column: Beginning the 2014 season
Happy May Day! I am writing the first column of the season from Ocean Point.
Thanks to the water department we were able to come to Fishermen’s Festival. So thank you again for all your efforts in making it all happen.
For those of you who will be returning a little later in the season, I am happy to report that despite the harsh winter Ocean Point weathered well and is just as beautiful as ever.
It’s nice to be back and to see a few Ocean Point friends. Alex Hall is here, opening. Judy Boyd was out walking with her son, Dana, daughter Caitlin and her beautiful new granddaughter, Audrey.
Barb Newell was also out walking with her family, daughter Stephanie and husband Ben Kaler with their son Jack and beautiful new baby Everett. We are beginning a whole new generation of Ocean Pointers.
Tom and Tish McGonegal are here as are John and Jean Webster. The Websters have friends, Jim and Cheryl Hogan from Bolder, Colo., visiting Ocean Point while John and Jean vacation in Sicily for 10 days. It was great to see Robert, Cookie and Jen Dana here as well. It was great to see Sue and Paul Taylor who thoroughly enjoyed their first winter in their new home at Ocean Point.
May is college graduation month and so congratulations to those Ocean Pointers who will be receiving degrees. Among those who are scheduled to graduate are Elizabeth Watchowsi, daughter of Randi and Dale Watchowski. Elizabeth will receiver her degree on May 3 from Randi’s alma mater, the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor. She will spend the year working at a law firm, and then plans to attend law school. We wish you all the best in pursuing your goals.
Kelsey Bennett, daughter of Jay and Maureen Bennett, will also graduate this month from the honors college at the University of Massachusetts. Her future goal is to attend graduate school. Devon Clark, daughter of Sue and Joe Clark will receiver her degree from Plymouth State in a few short weeks. Congratulations to you all.
Congratulations to Devon Parker, as her Syracuse lacrosse team defeated North Carolina in an ACC semi final game at Boston College. Grandparents Suzie and Pete Hamlet were in attendance. We were watching the game on TV and spotted Suzie and Pete in the stands. Syracuse then went on to play Maryland for the championship game on Sunday, but unfortunately lost to the Terapins. Syracuse had only 2 losses all season both to Maryland; it was a great season for Devon and her teammates.
Although it was a cold and damp day Saturday, the Fishermen’s Festival was well attended and all events were held despite the forecast of rain. We enjoyed viewing several of the events early Saturday morning along with other Ocean Pointers; a great way to begin a new season.
Have a great week.
