The number 1 family comedy, “Despicable Me-2” is playing at The Harbor Theatre this week.
On July 30, there will be an afternoon screening of the Maine-made Karen Black movie, “Vacationland” including Q & A with filmmaker Jamie Hook.
“Despicable Me-2” is a family action comedy, sequel to part 1, released in 2010 which was the 10th highest grossing animated film in U.S. history.
Now that Master criminal Gru (Steve Carell) has given up a life of crime to raise orphans Margo, Agnes and Edith, he's trying to figure out how to provide for his new family. As he struggles with his responsibilities, the Anti-Villain League (an organization dedicated to fighting evil) asks for his help. He is sent on a mission to capture the perpetrator of a spectacular heist.
It plays at 7 p.m. nightly through July 31 with a Sunday, July 28 matinee at 3 p.m..
At 3 p.m. on July 30, Academy-Award nominated actress Karen Black (“Five Easy Pieces,” “Easy Rider”) stars in “Vacationland” with Q & A by filmmaker Jamie Hook after the screening.
The moment Michael and Louise arrive at the Evans’ farm for a family reunion, they realize something is amiss: the farm is easily 20 years uninhabited, and there is scant sign of any other kin. Family and fate collude to comic effect in “Vacationland,” a independent film set against the backdrop of the failed reunion one summer in Maine.
“Vacationland” was filmed in 11 days in Denmark, Maine, from a story by Sarah Francoise, with significant contributions of dialogue and drama supplied by the actors. It stars Peter Pentz, Karen Black, Sara Paul Ocampo and Ivy Girdwood.
