Northern Stars Planetarium brings the night sky to CTL

Wed, 03/06/2024 - 12:15pm

Last month, Northern Stars Planetarium came to the Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL) to help students of all ages experience the night sky during the day.  Students in grades K-4 spent time in the Northern Stars inflatable dome looking at the seasonal night sky and discussing constellations, visible planets, meteors, the Moon, eclipses, and the northern lights. Students in grades 5-8 had an opportunity to deepen their understanding about solar and lunar eclipses during their time in the dome. They were excited to learn about the solar eclipse that will be visible from Edgecomb on Monday, April 8.

Northern Stars Planetarium and Educational Services is an educational astronomy and science outreach service for schools, libraries, and nonprofits throughout central and midcoast Maine. Their flagship offerings are presented through Northern Stars Planetarium, a fully equipped inflatable star theater, that comes directly to one's school, library, or facility. John Meader is the owner-educator and has over forty years of experience teaching under the stars. He offers more than twenty different planetarium shows on various astronomical topics. Shows are designed to match learning standards for grades pre-K through 8. Northern Stars Planetarium has been bringing the stars to more than 15,000 Maine students each year since 1987.
