News and Notes
CONGRATULATIONS! Our winner of our semi-annual lobster raffle is Patty Wrobel. She has won a Bucket ‘A Lobsters generously donated by Atlantic Edge Lobster.
Have you recovered from your 4th of July and Windjammer Week celebrations? Eaten too much junk food or lobster? On Fridays during the summer, the Food Pantry delivers to us beautiful fresh lettuce and other veggies. Please bring a bag and help yourself! To whet your appetite, check out our Facebook page to see the picture of our latest delivery. (www.facebook.com/boothbaycommunitycenter.)
We’ve been researching ways to help people get to medical appointments, the grocery store, or other necessary trips. As I’m sure you are aware we have a subscription program called People Helping People that provides transportation to individuals for their medical and food needs in the Boothbay Region, including Damariscotta and Brunswick. Our program generally operates Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursdays. The cost for this program is $20/month. Please call Lee at 207-633-9876 for more information. Community Rides is another program operated through the Community Resource Council that provides transportation for people to their appointments. They require 48 hours’ notice and will go to Portland too if they can find a driver. Please contact Anna Geneseo at 207-633-4375.
And, if you are looking for home food deliveries, please check out Instacart (www.instacart.com). It’s an online program to which you can subscribe to have groceries delivered to you from Hannaford, Shaw’s, or other stores. This program is fee based, but a great convenience if you can’t get to the grocery store. This program was recommended by one of our People Helping People members.
We have many, many incontinence supplies – especially men’s XL Depends. We also have lots of sterile bandaging supplies and walkers. If you have an unused wheelchair in good condition, we’d love your donation. If you need medical supplies, please call or stop by The Community Center Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. 633-9876. All medical supplies are FREE.
We extend a warm WELCOME to all our summer residents, visitors, and workers. Please drop in for a cup of coffee and a chance to chat with local people who are happy to share their knowledge of the region. You might also play a game of Cribbage, or Mah-Jongg, or Mexican Train Dominoes, or work on a puzzle. You most certainly will find a good book to read.
Here is our program schedule for the week of July 3 – 7: Monday, July 10: Drop-In Knitting – 10 a.m. – noon; Tuesday, July 11: Mah-Jongg – 10 a.m. – noon Wednesday, July 12: Cribbage – 12:30 – 2 p.m.; Thursday, July 13: Mexican Train Dominoes – 10 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.; Friday, July 14: Scrabble - noon – 2 p.m.
Puzzles, coffee, tea, goodies, and good camaraderie are always available all week long. Please save us from eating too many goodies ourselves. Summer is here! And we are always looking for fresh ideas!
