News and Notes from The Community Center

Wed, 05/10/2023 - 7:45am

Beginning Tuesday, May 9 from 10 to 11:30 a.m., and continuing for 4 weeks, we will hold a series of special classes with our renown Nationally Certified Master Flower Show Judge Sandra Leonard, who will teach us the elements and principles of design which apply to any type of design attempted. We will learn and practice some of the newer designs developed by the National Garden Clubs Flower Show School. There will be handouts and demonstrations to guide you and the opportunity to practice what you have learned. You can do one class or all four classes. The benefit of doing all four is that each class will build on the preceding class.

While I know that the Register does not come out until Thursday, if you catch the Morning Catch, you will see that tomorrow’s class, May 9, will begin with the process of selecting containers and how to use them. If you are attending, please bring with you one container that you have questions about how to use, as well as ideas for that container. We will discuss various methods of securing plant materials in a variety of containers. The importance of a container is: color, shape, opening type, size, and suitability. And the mechanics are: Kenzan (spiky frog), tape grid, wire ball, twigs, as in Ikebana style.

I will post on Facebook later this week the topics of our May 16th class.

Our Annual Indoor Yard Sale will be held on Friday and Saturday, June 2-3. Mark your calendars! We are looking for sellers. If you would like to have a table here to show off your items, the cost for a table is $20 for one day or $35 for both days. Please call the Community Center to make your table reservation. Three tables have been sold so far…. 633-9876.
