'Making Headlines' on Barter's Island
Dear Editor:
I spent a lovely afternoon driving over the bridge to Barters Island to Mathias Fine Art Gallery. I loved the quiet setting, nestled in the woods, away from the hubbub of town.
Friends took us to see the current show, "Making Headlines." It is an exhibition of paintings, drawings, prints and sculpture, all with the human head as their subject.
I was especially inspired by the large portraits of Maine's great movers and shakers, namely Margaret Chase Smith, Rachel Carson, and prints of Russell Libby and Samantha Smith. The images expressed the qualities that make the state of Maine a great place to live.
I recommend a visit if you want to be inspired, stimulated and reminded of the the spectrum of the human spirit as captured by these images.
