Local gardener and birder to speak at Boothbay Region Garden Club
Boothbay Region Land Trust (BRLT) board member Stan Wakefield will be speaking Aug. 9 at approximately 1:30 p.m. at the Boothbay Garden Club to share his 25 years of experience as a gardener and avid birder.
Wakefield spent 22 years in the Navy based in Florida. After retiring from the Navy, Stan became a certified Florida Master Gardener and worked as an independent landscaper while volunteering with numerous nature-based organizations. After retiring, Stan and his wife, Gloria, moved to East Boothbay, where Stan has been an active volunteer with the land trust; joining the board in 2020. As an avid birder with over 25 years of experience, Stan installed numerous bird boxes at land trust preserves, which he monitors seasonally for nesting activity. In 2020, Stan authored a blog for the BRLT called “The Bird Word” where he shared pictures and updates on bird nesting activity with the land trust community and the public.
The public is encouraged to join us for Stan’s presentation which will follow the Garden Club’s monthly business meeting which begins at 1 p.m. at St. Columba’s Episcopal Church, 32 Emery Lane, Boothbay Harbor.
