Lincoln County Democrats food drive
The Lincoln County Democratic Committee (LCDC) has launched a holiday food drive this fall to provide foodstuffs to county food pantries for the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays, Lincoln County Democratic Chairman Jim Torbert of Whitefield announced Sept. 21.
Attendees at LCDC events this fall are asked to bring canned, dry or other non perishable foods to place in receptacles which will be available at each event.
LCDC meets at least monthly to hear invited speakers or enjoy a meal together. Scheduled events with speakers include Sept. 23, Oct. 14 and Nov. 16 at the Community Room on River Road in Newcastle. These meetings begin at 6:30 p.m. A harvest supper and dance are also planned for the second half of October and the annual Holiday party will take place in mid December (venues for these two latter events are to be determined).
For information on speakers and further details on all these events, visit www.lincolncountydemocrats.com.
“We have done this in the past, said Torbert, but this year we want to make a special effort on behalf of our neighbors and friends who are less fortunate and who will be going to food pantries for their holiday staples. Every little bit helps and I encourage all of good will to participate in our modest effort.”
Torbert also announced that those unable to attend LCDC events but who wish to donate foodstuffs can call 207-380-5103 and arrange for a pick up.
