Likes Boothbay as it is
Dear Editor:
Part of the development program proposed by the town of Boothbay in the upcoming election poll on November 5th is the creation of an economic development office. The $500,000 earmarked for this new government office will pay for the salary of an economic director and planning studies, etc.
In this small town of 3,120 we are being asked to support yet another government bureaucrat. We need this new government office like we need a new tax to pay for it. This is a significant and unnecessary expansion of the size of our small town’s government.
I like Boothbay as it is. I like the rural character of the town and the small human sized government we already have.
It’s exciting when someone comes to town flashing a lot of cash and proposing a lot of changes, but at the end of the day, we all have to live with those changes. A lot of time and effort went into creating this plan but there is more to small town life than business development and increasing the tax base. We need to work on making our town more family friendly, and that does not require a new bureaucrat.
Please vote no for this proposal on November 5th.
