Join us in donating to the Land Trust
Dear Editor:
In response to the recent article about Boothbay Region Land Trust’s stewardship campaign, I’m eternally grateful for BRLT and their efforts to preserve the special places in our community. This is my home where I grew up as did my parents and grandparents before me. Places like Saunders, Oven’s Mouth and Pine Tree Preserves are where I grew up as a kid. They were in a sense, my extended backyard. I’m glad they are protected and still around for my kids to explore 30 years later.
I recently hiked on one of Educational Coordinator Tracey Hall’s guided tours with my sons Lucas and Duncan and came away with a new perspective on how precious a resource the educational program is to BRLT. It was more than a walk in the woods as they learned to use all five of their senses while hiking. In a recent economic impact study, a dollar amount was placed on BRLT’s impact to our community financially. I would argue that this figure is priceless. The board and staff at BRLT are truly passionate about this beautiful stretch of coast we live on and I know that these places will be protected in perpetuity for my family and our community to access free of charge and without permission or private property signs. My family and I would like to see this continue.
We’re showing our support for BRLT by making a donation this year knowing it will be matched dollar for dollar. I invite my family, friends and everyone to do the same. Please consider a donation to BRLT’s stewardship campaign so that we can continue to enjoy this wonderful “backyard” we have to share.
