Intergenerational event held at Memorial Library
St. Andrews Village wrapped-upits intergenerational series by partnering with the Boothbay Harbor Memorial Library this past Saturday, May 16 offering a “Conversation Café.”
Although sunny weather kept attendance smaller than expected, organizers and participants described the event as meaningful, engaging, and enjoyable.
Village residents joined community members—all ofvaried ages. Participants were paired with someone from a different generation and given prompts designed to spark conversation and connection. After each discussion period, the group reconvened to share stories, memories and insights before rotating partners and beginning again. The process was repeated three times.
Attendees said the conversations helped them better understand perspectives from different stages of life while highlighting common experiences and values.
“It was fun comparing notes from different generations,” said Village resident Diane Saunders. “The time spent at the library reminded me of how meaningful intergenerational connections can be…I hope we do more of this!”
Snacks and drinks were enjoyed throughout the session as participants continued informal conversations between activities.
The Conversation Café marked the final event in a series of monthly intergenerational programs that began in February. According to St. Andrews Village Marketing Manager Bob Drury, each event was designed to foster community and connection among participants of all ages.
“Starting in February, we held one intergenerational activity/program each month, with participation of mixed generations each time,” Drury said. “These were designed to strengthen participants’ sense of belonging, bridge cultures, potentially reduce loneliness, and of course learn from each other.”
Though Saturday’s event concluded the formal series, Drury said residents have already expressed interest in continuing intergenerational activities as a regular offering at the Village.
