How very fortunate
Dear Editor:
How very fortunate we year-rounders are to live in such a supportive, thoughtful community!
Individuals, as well as groups, come together to give our lives some real blessings. We would like to honor three groups that helped get us through this real Maine “wintah” with their Community Lunches.
Alphabetically, Brady's. For five years, under the leadership of that dynamic mother/daughter duo, Momma T and Jen, how generous Jen has been all these years to freely open her impressive establishment so we could come together for a hearty meal, good conversations and a few laughs on every Monday, November to mid-March. Just think over the years how many gallons that Momma T has made her signature/award-winning “chowdah,” let alone what it cost her even getting a free truck load of potatoes! Thanks to all of the volunteers who showed up those many Mondays to make sure we were well taken care of in a most friendly manner. Then more kudos go to all the organizations who each week created such tasty lunches.
Next, our thanks go to the volunteer parishioners and Pastor Todd of the Congo Church who on the first Wednesday (weather permitting) of the month, November into March, gave an array of outstanding soups/chili/chowdahs/ homemade bread/rolls/deserts on table arrangements Martha would have envied. Again, giving all of us a warm/inviting place to gather in good fellowship.
Rounding out the three groups is the East Boothbay Methodist Church, which was served on the second Tuesday, November into mid-March, having a wide variety of delicious dishes to choose from. Topped off with more salads, rolls, various breads, and deserts, while sharing friendships and memories. St. Patrick was there in spirit for the last luncheon with tables decorated appropriately. It has been 50 years since Dee, our family, and I had come to the church's ham dinner. Delicious in '76 right into 2026!
Though these are free lunches, donations were accepted. All monies collected went to worthy causes within in our community.
How good is that?!
