Friend turned enemy
Dear Editor:
A once powerful friend has turned enemy. Too much wealth will do that, I understand.
Fossil fuel is such a miracle wrapped in a nightmare: too much of a good thing. The people who own too much of a good thing are proving to be major blocks to our imagining cleaner and more equal energy for all.
The nightmare will not convert willingly to a better dream. We must help steer our political landscape and our old friend fossil fuel into a safer place. Just as national policies affect us here in Maine, so too do our state's actions affect our nation's course.
This coming session we have a necessary proposal to send a course correction to Washington. Our LD 1461 firmly directs our state pension fund to divest away from fossil fuel stock. Continued investing in a miracle-turned-nightmare is dangerous. Hopefully too much of a good thing can be turned to just enough.
