Last week the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) upgraded Maine’s status with respect to influenza to “widespread.” Indeed, the flu has arrived.

I would recommend that those who have not had their flu shot this year, do so now. The strain most prevalent is one of those that is covered by the vaccine making it even more sensible to get immunized. The vaccine is also readily available this year and there are currently no shortages locally.

Influenza strikes the hardest in the very young, the elderly and those with chronic medical conditions, but it also can be a serious illness in otherwise healthy young adults (and at the least, make you feel miserable). So, head to your provider's office, school or pharmacy and get immunized.
