First Responders meet with Community Center volunteers to show support for emergency sign program

Recently, several of our local First Responders met at The Community Center (185 Townsend Ave.) to show their support for the Emergency Sign Program. This program offers blue signs with white reflective numbers corresponding to a person’s house number.

This program started several years ago, and many area citizens have taken advantage of it. Emergency Signs, made up by volunteer Dwight Lewis, are reasonably priced at $20 for a reflective number on one side and $25 for two sided.

All First Responders welcome this program and wanted to thank those at The Community Center who make it happen. All agree it makes their jobs much less stressful when responding to an emergency call and trying to locate the address. This is why they all gathered to support and encourage the community members to get their own Emergency Signs.

You can easily order your own sign by stopping in or calling The Community Center at 633-9876. If you call Monday-Friday, 10 a.m.-2 p.m., you can speak with a volunteer. Otherwise, you can leave a message that you are interested in purchasing a sign, and someone will call you back.

When completed, you will be called to pick up your sign, or in some cases it can be delivered. Signs can be mounted either horizontally or vertically.

It is suggested the Emergency Sign be attached to a mailbox post or, if you don’t have a mailbox, it should be mounted somewhere in front of the house so that it can easily be seen.
