Final audition notice for youth production of ‘Fiddler on the Roof’
Lincoln Academy and Heartwood Regional Theater Company announce final auditions for its annual youth musical collaborative, open to all Midcoast students entering grades 7-12.
This year’s production “Fiddler on the Roof,” is a 1964 Broadway classic and the winner of nine Tony awards, based on the stories of Sholem Aleichem, was created by Jerry Bock, Sheldon Harnick and Joseph Stein.
This production, scheduled for November of 2013, will be directed by Griff Braley with musical direction by Sean Fleming and vocal coaching by Beth Preston. Tish Munson will train and lead a student technical staff. A choreographer will be announced at a later date.
Remaining primary roles include Shprintze, Bielke, Motel, Perchik, Fyedka, Mordcha, Rabbi, and the Fiddler, along with a female ensemble of six to 10 additional singers/dancers and a male ensemble of eight to 12 men.
The first round of auditions last spring filled the roles of Golde, Grandma Tzeitel, Tzeital, Chava, Yente, Fruma Sarah, Tevye, Lazar Wolf and Constable.
Auditions for any students within driving distance from Lincoln Academy will be held at Parker B. Poe Theater at Lincoln Academy on August 30 between 3 and 5 p.m. Students should enter on the band room level to fill out paperwork and will be called to the stage to audition.
Not all roles require singing, non-singing auditions are permitted.
Audition information
Auditions should be 2-3 minutes and include an introduction.
To audition with music, students should listen to the five song selections below and choose the one most appropriate for his/her voice.
Learn the song with a karaoke version on YouTube, memorize it and sing with the karaoke at the audition.
Be prepared to “act” the song.
Audition song selections: “If I Were a Rich Man,” “Miracle of Miracles,” “Now I Have Everything,” “Far from the Home I Love,” “Matchmaker,” “Tevye's Dream.”
Students who do not wish to sing in the production can bring a short monologue from the show.
