Edgecomb Fire Rescue April report
Edgecomb Fire Rescue responded to 14 calls in April, compared with 34 calls in March. April calls included two mutual aid requests for structure fires, one brush fire, five medical emergencies (ME), three motor vehicle accidents (MVA), and one other call for a bomb threat drill at Wiscasset Elementary School. For the year-to-date, we have responded to 84 calls.
We participated in a joint training exercise with Wiscasset, Westport Island, and Alna fire departments on fighting rural fires, hosted by the Alna fire department. The training included pumping water from a local pond, filling a tanker, transporting the tanker to the “scene,” dumping the water into a dump tank, and then pumping into hoses. In addition, we had classroom training on fighting brush fires. Other training included our monthly truck check of all apparatus and equipment. Ongoing training is critical in maintaining our readiness to respond to any call.
The department also observed International Firefighters Day on May 4 to honor all firefighters for their service internationally and to remember those firefighters who lost their lives while serving, especially those killed in the September 11 attacks.
