Drinkwater girls defeat Boothbay for Busline League title
The Drinkwater School in Northport took advantage of a tired and cold-shooting Boothbay Region Elementary School girls basketball team and went on to defeat the Wildcats, 42-27, to win the Busline League small school division championship at Searsport on Saturday, Feb. 7.
The previously undefeated Wildcats got into foul trouble early but held a 22-17 lead at the half. The Drinkwater team, the top team in the north division, took advantage in the second half, outscoring Boothbay 18-3 in the third quarter and 7-2 in the final quarter.
“They were a fast team and we were a bit tired from playing Friday,” said coach Lesley Blethen. “They shot well in the second half, too.”
Madilyn Alley led Boothbay with nine points, followed by Mabel Kaler with eight and Jimiah Stetson with six.
Hollyn and Esme (last names unavailable) led Drinkwater with 19 points each.
